TGLQV? Unauthorized Public Advertising in Madrid

Everyone, I'm so sorry I have been slow on the site updates. Things are a bit crazy at PAC with lots of huge upcoming projects. Can't wait to clue everyone in. Until then I have been speaking to Alberto De Pedro in Madrid about outdoor advertising, street art, and finding a way to make a NYSAT project happen on Spanish soil. He is a fantastic artist and I highly suggest looking into his work.

The video below shows one of the actions of the TGLQV? project, which I'm told has had many artists' participation over the years. If I am correct this specific installations was done by NEKO.

Gran via XXX-New Madrid Cross Out Campaign

I was just emailed a tip that a second huge cross out campaign was done in Madrid, this time taking place over street furniture advertising locations. Upon further inquiry, the person who got in touch would only tell me that an "active group of urban artists from Madrid" had done this, and that they wanted to take no responsibility. At least that is the way it came off in translation. Check out the full set of images, and see the related first action which took place over billboards in June.

Public Interventions In Madrid

VIA Ekosystem.org

It appears that 30 large billboards in Madrid were crossed out in an act of public intervention against outdoor advertising. This civil disobedience was reported by Ekosystem Madrid where the project can be seen in its entirety. As much as I hate interventions which leave the advertising behind, this project is so blunt and aggressive the advertising becomes a strong part of the final image and message. The digital billboard at the end is particularly destructive and fantastic. Bravo to whomever did this.

Nuria Hits The Streets Of Madrid

These are our streets and we have the right to use them as we see fit. This is not just my opinion but an internationally recognized movement capable of rethinking our relationship to the spaces we live in.
